well done, roger sterling.

This week's John Slattery-directed episode of Mad Men was one of its best. Read about how fantastic it was and a Q&A with the silver dreamboat himself.

Can someone be my role model if we're the same age? No? Well, I'm going with it.

Love, love, looooove her.

And everything in this article is music to my ears. All of it.

ok, really.

I mean, how beautiful is this creature? Christ.

Anyway, I am beyond excited for the new season of Mad Men, and this is only getting me more antsy to see what is in store for us drama-wise and style-wise. Can they top the lawnmower episode? My money's on yes.

I am looking forward to a weekend of family, friends, sun overexposure, cold beer, possible fireworks, and of course, watching my man's skills on the grill.

Wishing everyone a fabulous holiday weekend!

a bag in the hand (or pit).

photo via jak and jil

I'm pretty into the idea of an oversized clutch although I have never carried a bag that doesn't have a strap or handle. Lots of sexy options out these days and the vintage styles are pretty bomb, too (I always see a few good ones at American Rag). I'd opt for something neutral, embellished, or a fun pattern like cheetah.

I don't know if I could master balancing a vodka-soda, handbag, and talking with my hands at the same time. Oh, multi-tasking!

My current faves include:

summasummasummatiiiime-ish.

Wow.

My last blog was about fur-lined rain boots. I guess it has been a while since I spent time with ya'll.

With Los Angeles beginning its gorgeous spring weather this week, all I wanted was to wear cotton dresses and sandals and be tan. My birthday was a few weeks ago, and my too-generous boyfriend gave me a most coveted pair of Dolce Vita studded heels I had been salivating over for months. They were just barely too big and Bloomingdale's had sold out in other sizes so instead, my boo said one of the world's most magical things to me: "Look around and get whatever you want."

!!

Well, then. Let me re-calibrate things here.

I love me a platform espadrille in the summer. Pretty sure I have been through close to ten pairs since I first put one on in high school, and the Banana Republic pair I have had for a few years are on their last legs.

Enter: my new summer shoes.

I thought perhaps my inclination to buy everything Michael Kors had gone by the wayside until I saw these puppies in the MK catalog recently. Bloomingdale's AGAIN was sold out in my size and color so they lost a customer to Nordstrom's online store. I can't wait until the package arrives and my gilded sandals are all mine to cuddle once again.

Thanks, E, for the beginning of a wonderful spring and summer.

water repellers.

I like the idea of rubber boots though I have never owned any.  These look fuzzy and warm and very much like the inside of Uggs.  And it has been raining a lot in LA lately.  Bday present? Yum.

thoughts for fabulistas

I've been a bad little blogger these past few weeks. Apologies, loyal readers! But essentially, I have been rethinking what it means to be a most glamorous fabulista and how we can become even more fabulous in addition to looking and feeling great.

It seems like there are plenty of sites that tell you what to buy, where to buy it, and how much you have to have it and now! Although I am guilty of buying in to these ideas myself, in recent months my professional situation and mindset has changed, I believe for the better. I have less money, but I am trying to use it more thoughtfully. With all of the news in the country and the world, it seems silly to obsess over shoes or clothes or the next big IT handbag. Life is more than that, people.

But, I am a fashion/lifestyle blogger. Isn't that the antithesis of spending and consuming less?

I am reinterpreting how to be fabulous and have resolved to give you only tried and true recommendations and to publish only worthwhile posts. Quality and doing good. Fabulous.

I have resolved to dedicate more of my time and albeit modest resources to nonprofit organizations, the environment, family and friends in need, and immediate or dire global causes (i.e. Haiti disaster relief, human rights in Iran). I sincerely encourage us all to make it a priority this year to do the same. Although the $800 pair of Louboutins are gorgeous and temping, I think in this economy and global climate, we can put the bulk of that money toward something worthwhile. Shop the sales and outlets and consider using and buying less. Do I really need 6 pairs of black pumps? I know better than that.

Donate to a local nonprofit. Volunteer at the homeless shelter. Hold a fundraiser brunch with your friends. Spend less on clothes and shoes. Spend time outside. Write a thoughtful letter to someone you're out of touch with.

I guarantee that these are just a few things to make you and the world a more fabulous place. Let's resolve to do something good and fabulous this year.

UMMM.

From Fox's website:

"The executive producers of Glee will begin a nationwide casting search this February to fill three new roles that will be added to the show's second season.

Auditions will be open to professional and amateur individuals between the ages of 16-26. All hopefuls will be able to submit auditions online. Additional details to be announced soon."

and... we're back!

Blissfully frolic those holiday pounds away.

Happy 2010, fabulistas! I have a feeling this year is going to be a great one for all of us.

Although I'm not big on resolutions, I like to take time to reevaluate my goals during this time, keep things fresh, and head into the year motivated and ready to tackle the challenges ahead.

Not sure about you, but I had a gaggle of family in town over the past few weeks and with family comes many a group gathering and in turn many a delish meal. My waistline isn't loving me right now, but that's okay! It's 2010! It's time to resolve and beat the bulge, right! Right!?

Here's an article from the NY Times today on women carrying more weight if they live with a significant other. It's no excuse for our ever expanding hip size, but it definitely motivated me to hit the yoga, dance, and pilates studios ever harder.

Michelle Obama's not alone.

I share her adoration for J. Crew and have since I was in middle school. They always seem to make quality clothing and their pieces can sometimes last years and years (I'm still obsessed with a cashmere splurge from years past).

The holiday 2009 catalog delivers. The pictures are amazing, and the boots, tights, cashmere, silk, and lightweight wool make me want winter all year round.

Now to work on that just-in-from-the-cold rosy flush they have perfected so well...

shear genius.

Rainy days are supposed to be reserved for crafting, organizing, tv/movie watching, snuggling under warm blankets, and wearing Uggs and sweatpants. All to most of these things have taken up my day today. I can't complain.

One thing wet weather brings that doesn't put a smile on my face: frizzy hair. Many a solution has been attempted yet few to none have been successful. Enter Living Proof No Frizz.

My scientist-doctor-straight man brother told me about this stuff. I figured if it reached the likes of him, someone who's only beauty product starts with s and ends with oap, it had to be good. In fact, his mentor/colleague invented the thing. Helloooo.

I've tried it. You've simply GOT TO.

I'll let the blurb speak for itself:

Whether you've got curly cues or stick-straight strands, at some point you'll be affected by the dreaded frizz—the annoying change in hair texture that takes you from slick to static in any humid situation. But before you crawl under that hat, meet Living Proof, your new frizz-busting BFF that keeps moisture mishaps under control. The brainchild of a talented team of hair aficionados lead by an MIT professor, the goal was to find a breakthrough solution "from a physics standpoint" and not through the standard methods of creating a typical beauty product. Instead of traditional silicone-based solutions, Living Proof set out to create efficient formulas based on entirely new molecules using advanced technology, so your toughest hair challenges are solved from a fresh, new perspective. The result is a comprehensive collection of cutting-edge, humidity-resistant formulas that work for all hair types. Whether you prefer it curly or straight, the road to silkier strands just got that much smoother—and you're about to see Living Proof.

fire-breathing little miss.

I've done everything under the sun today, it seems. Cleaning, cooking, errands, dance, stretching, test-taking, emailing. All to the current soundtrack o' my heart: Dragonette. It reminds me of a little La Roux, Veronicas, Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Yumminess. How I hope they will come to LA soon...

Get into it.

SWF.

I love the VS fashion show. Freak-of-nature beautiful models, crazy lingerie/costumes, and anything and everything that will make you want to put down the box of Trader Joe's chocolate covered almonds and run 8 miles.

This picture stood out to me, not for the beauty of Miranda Kerr, but for the sheer jealousy radiating from her onlooker in the right side of the photo.

Look familiar?

Hilar.

brutal.

Heidi and Spencer were on Conan last night. They got booed before and after their appearance. Which was actually kind of the audience. These douches make me want to poke my eyes and ears out with an ice pick.

View both parts. Ew all around.

snow day.

Sometimes, if only for a moment (usually a brief moment), I wish it snowed here in LA. I think it makes the holidays seem more real or something and justifies all the rich, warm food I devour in the months of November and December. And January.

If it did snow (or if I take a ski trip this year) I would/will be wearing these puppies. So very ski lodge chic and comfy. Like Uggs. But for real snow.
